No one enjoys feeling stressed, but we have to admit a life without it would be a little boring.

Without projects to care about and deadlines to keep progress chugging along, we would lose some motivation.

A little bit of stress can be a good thing according to UC Berkley, reporting that it can “push you to the level of optimal alertness, behavioral and cognitive performance.”

If stress can keep us on our toes, consider the perspective of managing stress rather than trying to completely eliminate it. Here are some tips you can try right now:

Try the 5 Before 11

You might be familiar with this productivity hack, where you give priority to 5 tasks before 11AM. Might be easier said than done, but the concept of giving a few, manageable items importance before you head into your afternoon could help you maintain high levels of productivity.

Make Light

A good laugh is an instant stress buster. Cortisol, the stress hormone, takes a back burner when you take the opportunity to really laugh and loosen up. Getting less serious for a moment gets you thinking in a new and often unexpected way, helping you see problems differently. Defenses go down and team camaraderie goes up.

Choose Your Own Reaction

We don’t always get to choose the things that happen to us. There is no denying that a suddenly canceled flight or a defunct conference number is annoying, but differentiating small misfortunes from things you can control or plan for is crucial. Be conscious that being overly stressed or irritated with every day, small annoyances can be a choice.
