Candidate experience is critical to recruiting success – but it’s also one of the hardest parts to get right.

The hiring process can be long and complicated, and making sure every candidate’s experience is a good one isn’t easy.

If you want to improve candidate experience to attract top talent, consider these three tips.

Minimize Interview Stress

Interviews are typically the most stressful part of the hiring process for candidates – but they’re also an incredibly opportunity to impress candidates.

Take full advantage of interviews by showing off your office, any cool perks or benefits, give candidates a glimpse of your culture, and introduce them to potential colleagues.

To minimize interview stress, you should also provide very clear expectations and instructions for the day. Let them know where exactly to go, how to navigate your office, how long the interview will take, and who they will be meeting with.

Communicate, Communicate, Communicate

It’s hard to overcommunicate during the hiring process. Recruiters and/or hiring managers should communicate often and thoroughly with candidates.

Try to keep the candidate in the loop through every step of the process and let them know what to expect next. Candidates also appreciate timelines – let them know how long each step will take, when they can expect decisions to be made or further information to be communicated and so forth.

When candidates reach out, try to respond as promptly as you can. Don’t be the recruiter that answers the first question in a candidate’s email but overlooks any following questions!

Collect, Track, and Act on Candidate Feedback

No one can give you better information on your candidate experience than candidates.

A week or two after someone interviewed at your company, reach out to ask for their feedback. Track this data over time to identify common trends or improvement opportunities.

This gives you a good benchmark for where your candidate experience is today, and how you can improve it going forward.
